When choosing a surgeon it is important for people to be aware of their surgeon's board certification. Board Certification means that a surgeon has had formal training in Plastic Surgery. To be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery the surgeon must have at least five years of surgical training after medical school of which two years are in Plastic Surgery. They then must pass a certification exam in Plastic Surgery. The training is in depth so that a surgeon can handle cases that are more difficult as well as complications if they arise.
There are many doctors with all types of backgrounds performing breast augmentation. The Medical Board does not license for specific procedures, they license for the practice of medicine. If the surgery is done in a private office there is no oversight. To do surgery in a hospital you must be specifically trained and certified in that area of medicine. So hospital privileges are also an indication of specific training.
It is important to take into account where the physicians referrals are coming from. If the primary source of referrals stems from patient referrals to the practice then it shows high patient satisfaction and a reputation built on exceptional patient care and surgical results.
Dr. Larry C. Leverett is a board-certified plastic surgeon with many years of experience performing advanced breast augmentation procedures. As one of the more accomplished Arizona breast implants surgeons, he has earned hospital privileges at several reputable medical institutions. In addition, Dr. Larry C. Leverett offers his prospective patients numerous testimonials and recommendations from his former breast augmentation patients.
Dr. Leverett performs breast augmentation on an outpatient basis. This allows patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes. Dr. Leverett typically performs breast implants surgery under a local IV sedation technique that allows patients to have a very rapid recovery with minimal downtime.
Breast augmentation recovery varies depending on the type of the procedure, the size of the implants, and each patient's unique health characteristics. The average recovery time to get back to work is between three to five days with lifting limitations. Most of Dr. Leverett's Tempe / Phoenix breast augmentation patients can resume physical activity 2-3 weeks after their treatments.
There are two types of breast implants: Saline and Silicone. The outer shell of the two implants is the same however the fill material is different. Saline implants are a salt water fill and the Silicone is a cohesive gel material. Many patients are choosing Silicone Gel breast implants over Saline breast implants because they more closely resemble breast tissue. In patients who are very thin with minimal breast tissue they can experience rippling with the Saline breast implants. Our video will demonstrate the difference between the two breast implants:
At the first consultation we first obtain a complete medical history, as well as an analysis of the patient's body frame. All decisions are discussed, including choice of implants (silicone versus saline), incision location, and implant placement. Dr. Leverett listens to the patient's goals, and he also asks patients to describe how they would like to look after breast augmentation.
Dr. Leverett also discusses various types of anesthesia during the pre-surgical consultation. He helps the patient select the most appropriate implant type, and encourages them to "try on" implants inside clothing to get an idea of what to expect after surgery. In addition, Dr. Leverett provides a wealth of before-and-after photos for the prospective breast augmentation patients. By browsing through the pictures, they can learn what goals can be accomplished with various implant types and sizes, and they leave the consultation with a good idea as to what they can expect after surgery.
